Term 3 Week 6 - Thursday 28 August 2025
Principal Message
Gospel – Luke 14: 1, 7-14
And it came to pass, when Jesus went into the house of one of the chief of the Pharisees, on the sabbath day, to eat bread, that they watched him. And he spoke a parable also to them that were invited, marking how they chose the first seats at the table, saying to them: When thou art invited to a wedding, sit not down in the first place, lest perhaps one more honourable than thou be invited by him: And he that invited thee and him, come and say to thee, Give this man place: and then thou begin with shame to take the lowest place.
But when thou art invited, go, sit down in the lowest place; that when he who invited thee, cometh, he may say to thee: Friend, go up higher. Then shalt thou have glory before them that sit at table with thee. Because every one that exalteth himself, shall be humbled; and he that humbleth himself, shall be exalted. And he said to him also that had invited him: When thou makest a dinner or a supper, call not thy friends, nor thy brethren, nor thy kinsmen, nor thy neighbours who are rich; lest perhaps they also invite thee again, and a recompense be made to thee. But when thou makest a feast, call the poor, the maimed, the lame, and the blind; And thou shalt be blessed, because they have not wherewith to make thee recompense: for recompense shall be made thee at the resurrection of the just.
Sacrament of Confirmation
The Archbishop presided over a beautifully reverent ceremony where over twenty of our students received the Sacrament of Confirmation. There was a high level of respect and reverence in the Church and the Archbishop moved through the ceremony talking with the congregation about the journey to Confirmation. His conversation was invitational. An invitation for all to reconnect with the Church. Thank you to Cathy and Lee Schneider who led the program as volunteers working within the parish. As it is a Parish celebration, coordinating students from both Parish schools, Marist as well as other schools in our community is no mean feat. Thank you also to our families. Parish programs rely greatly on the energy and commitment of families to journeying. We are blessed with many families who are committed to dedicating their time to support their children. Thank you also to Brigitta our REC and Katie our Youth Minister, for the roles each of you played in unpacking Confirmation and preparing our students.
Book Week
The fun continues with our Book Fair starting tomorrow afternoon. Book Cow have provided us with a great selection for you to purchase from. Further details are outlined in the Library section of the Newsletter. This is always a great opportunity for early stocking fillers for Christmas. Thank you to Mrs Hind for all the wonderful things you are doing to promote reading.
Father’s Day Celebrations
As you will have seen, On Friday September 5 we will be holding our Father’s Day breakfast. Breakfast will be a sausage sizzle, pastries, tea and coffee and a fruit box. There is an RSVP later in the newsletter. Please include your children in these numbers as we will then be able to include them in the catering. If Dad can’t attend, we would love to have a significant male from your child’s life. Once breakfast is over, the students and teachers have organised some activities in the classrooms. These will finish by 10am. The ELC students will then lead a Father’s Day liturgy in the Church. All ELC Dads are welcome to join us.

Student Achievements

ACT 12&U Boys Hockey Championships
Last week Brayden L represented not only St Jude's School but the ACT at the 12&U Hockey Championships in Bendigo, Victoria. Brayden's team played 6 games throughout the tournament against NSW, VIC, Queensland, SA, Tas and WA. They came away with 1 win, 2 draws and 3 losses and came a creditable 5th place overall. What a wonderful achievement and experience for Brayden playing against the best 12 year old hockey players in Australia. Well done Brayden, we are extremely proud of you and look forward to what the future holds for you.

Congratulations Sasha!
Sasha A competed in the ACT State Championship last weekend in Level 4 gymnastics for Southern Canberra Gymnastics team. He achieved an outstanding result – winning 2 gold medals, 2 bronze medals, and a silver medal overall.
RE News
Congratulations!
A warm congratulations to our newly confirmed Confirmation Candidates who last night, received the Sacrament of Confirmation, completing their initiation into the Catholic Church.
During this special Mass, our young people were sealed with the gift of the Holy Spirit through the anointing with sacred Chrism and the laying on of hands. This powerful sacrament strengthens them to live as witnesses of Christ, guided by the Spirit’s gifts of wisdom, understanding, counsel, courage, knowledge, wonder and reverence for God.
May the Holy Spirit guide you, strengthen your faith, and inspire you to live as a true witness of Christ.
