Principal's Message

Gospel Reading: Matthew 14:22-33
After he had fed the people, Jesus made his disciples get into the boat and go ahead of him to the other side, while he sent the crowd away.
And having sent the people away, he went up the mountain by himself to pray. At nightfall, he was there alone. Meanwhile, the boat was very far from land, dangerously rocked by the waves for the wind was against it.

At daybreak, Jesus came to them walking on the lake. When they saw him walking on the sea, they were terrified, thinking that it was a ghost. And they cried out in fear. But at once Jesus said to them, "Courage! Don't be afraid. It's me!" Peter answered, "Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you walking on the water."

Jesus said to him, "Come." And Peter got out of the boat, walking on the water to go to Jesus. But, in face of the strong wind, he was afraid and began to sink. So he cried out, "Lord, save me!" Jesus immediately stretched out his hand and took hold of him, saying, "Man of little faith, why did you doubt?"
As they got into the boat, the wind dropped. Then those in the boat bowed down before Jesus saying, "Truly, you are the Son of God!"

MND and Cancer Fundraiser

As you would be aware, we have 5 Peer Leader groups in Year 6. They present ideas and as a school, we often implement them. One of their latest ideas has a fundraising focus. This Friday we will be holding a fundraiser focussing on both Motor Neuron Disease and Cancer. The Community Council will sponsor a sausage Sizzle and students are invited to wear a colour linked with one of these illness. We have had several families impacted by MND and Cancer in the past 12 months so they are very close to our hearts. You may have lost a loved one or have a survival story which is close to your heart. We are asking that each family donate what they can afford. We understand that many families are experiencing financial challenges. We will divide the funds equally between MND and Breast Cancer.

Ongoing works

The project for the portable classrooms included a covered walk way. This will enable students to get from the classroom to the toilets and areas within the main building during wet weather. CE are currently organising timings for this project.

We have received quotes for asphalt repair, which will hopefully be completed during the September holiday period. We are awaiting final quotes for the undercover shelter shed and are hoping that this work will also begin in the holidays.

Parent / Teacher Meetings

During Term 3, there are no formal meetings scheduled. However, as is always the case, if you need to meet with your child’s teacher for an update or because of an ongoing concern, please contact them via email to set up a mutually suitable time.

Community Council Meeting

We have a scheduled Community Council meeting next week. The Community Council executive met last night and we will circulate a draft agenda early next week. If you have any questions or ideas you would like to bring to the table, please either come to the meeting, or reach out via the Community Council email address which can be found on the school website. FUTSAL Success

A huge congratulations to our wonderful Futsal teams. The boys played with zest and energy, and the girls were outstanding, combining as a team with great skill to win the overall tournament. Thank you to Mrs Gibson and our two parent coaches, for giving so freely of your time.

ROSTRUM Finals

A few weeks ago Eliza H represented St Jude’s at the Rostrum finals. Eliza presented a wonderful speech with great clarity and animation. The competition was at an extremely high standard. Thank you to Mrs Laudenbach, Mrs Stincic and all who helped Eliza prepare. You made us very proud.

South Woden Athletics Carnival

As is always the case, St Jude’s will be represented by a large team of students. The carnival is next Friday August 17. We wish all our students the very best and encourage them to continue to work towards their personal best. Thank you to Mrs Henderson and Mr Mitchell for leading this project.

Thank you for your ongoing support.
