In Christus Vivit, Pope Francis says,
‘A Church always on the defensive, which loses her humility and stops listening to others, which leaves no room for questions,
loses her youth and turns into a museum.’
As you may be aware, Tuesday was the first day of NAPLAN, which our school is doing online. Unfortunately, some connectivity issues were experienced during the test on Wednesday and these issues are currently being investigated. St Jude’s have managed the technical disruptions in line with the national test administration protocols. The helpdesk supported our school throughout the day to manage and resolve any disruptions.
Dear Parents and Carers
Canteen Kim is doing a wonderful job managing the canteen. It is always a concern to me that some children have ten and twenty dollar notes to use at canteen. While the children are limited to how many ‘sweet treats’ (lollies) they can buy, some children have too much money and the temptation is great for them and they want to buy more than they should. Perhaps it is timely for you to have a chat with your child and/or monitor how much money they are bringing to school.
Trust Your Child’s Teacher
Your child’s teacher is your greatest ally. Their training, their experience around children and their objective professionalism puts them in a strong position to make judgement calls about your child. Next week’s parent/teacher interviews will be a valuable opportunity for teachers to feedback to you the progress your child is making. We encourage our Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 students to attend interviews, while our younger students are asked not to be part of these meetings. Kinder, Years 1 and 2 will have a Learning Journey later in the year when they will have an opportunity to share their work with parents.
Talk Up What Happens At School
Your child will take their cues from you about how you see their school. If you want your child to value learning, and enjoy their time at school then you need to support your school and make sure he or she hears positive messages about learning, teachers and the school itself. You can set a strong educational agenda at home by talking up your school.
Send Children to School Ready to Learn and on Time
Maximize your child’s chances of success by sending them to school in a good frame of mind, with plenty of sleep and a good breakfast. Also make sure they get to school on time. It is estimated that many children miss up to two weeks of school a year when they are routinely late by just five minutes a day.
The enrolment period for Preschool to Year 6 is here. If you know of anyone who is interested in sending their child to St Jude’s next year (in any grade from P to 6) then encourage them to submit an online enrolment application. Enrolment application forms can be downloaded from the Enrolment tile on our website home page. A limited number of enrolment application hardcopies are available from the front office of the primary school and the ELC. All enrolment applications should be received by the front office of the primary school for Kinder 2020 applications and ELC for Preschool 2020 applications by Friday 31 May.
SchoolTV - SPECIAL REPORT: Parenting Styles - What type of parent are you?
There are so many different opinions offered on how best to parent. New parents will often have firm beliefs about how they wish to balance love and discipline, but this ideal often goes out the window when a toddler throws their first tantrum in the supermarket!
Raising children can bring parents and caregivers great joy despite many learning ‘on the job’ and growing into the role through experience and understanding. Children will always flourish in a warm and loving environment, supported by clear guidance.
In this Special Report, parents and caregivers can gain a greater understanding of the four defined parenting styles by taking part in the quiz. It can guide parents towards deciding which style they wish to adopt and the effects it may have on their children.
We hope you take time to reflect on the information offered in this Special Report, and as always, we welcome your feedback. If you do have any concerns about the wellbeing of your child, please contact the school for further information or seek medical or professional help.
Here is the link to your special report. Cut and paste it into your browser: https://stjudesps.act.schooltv.me/wellbeing_news/special-report-parenting-styles

Consistent Qkr! Problems
Please ensure online lunch orders are for the correct day and make sure you receive a receipt number. Too many children are turning up at lunch upset that their lunch orders are missing. Some parents also haven’t updated their children’s classes, this delays the tallying process in the morning, especially on Fridays when we are very busy.
Mulleygrub’s Café can only function with your help. Any amount of time is wonderful. Thursdays and Fridays are especially busy so if you can, please come in and have a go. I’ll even make you a cuppa! Remember to apply for a Working with Vulnerable People card (WWVP). It’s free for volunteers!
