Let us pray
God our Father,
make us joyful
in the ascension of your Son Jesus Christ.
May we follow him into the new creation,
for his ascension is our glory and our hope.
We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Dear Parents and Carers
New Outside School Hours Care Provider
As mentioned in previous newsletters and at Community Council meetings, a sub-committee of the CC was appointed earlier this year to run a select tender process for the after school, before school and vacation care service at St Jude’s. Our current provider, YMCA has run these services since 1999 and their current contract expires at the end of June, 2019.
YMCA, OSH Club and Camp Australia were invited to tender for the contract for services here at St Jude’s. The CC sub-committee was Peter Galvin, Skye Maguire and Autumn O’Keeffe. Introductory and information briefings were held with all three companies; tenders received and analysed by the committee; additional information sort; some negotiation of key aspects of tenders took place and the result is Camp Australia has been offered the new contract beginning on July 8.
Without going into great detail, Camp Australia was awarded the contract on the basis of:
- It offered parents the best value for money. Their ASC fee will be $26 per afternoon session whereas it is currently $31.25. There are similar sized reductions in fees charged to parents for their BSC and VC services.
- The school receives considerably more in ‘rental’ from the new provider.
- The thoroughly professional approach, in personal and electronic contact, but especially their clear intent to win this contract, was a telling factor as well.
Change always brings with it some challenges. And so it will be a change from YMCA to Camp Australia. Parents currently using any of our outside school hours care services will have to reapply with Camp Australia. Children currently in BSC and ASC will not miss out, as long as parents register with Camp Australia.
Two information sessions run by Camp Australia with be held in the school library on:
- Tuesday 11 June from 5.30pm – 6.00pm and
- Thursday 20 June from 5.30pm – 6.00pm
The registration process for Camp Australia will be explained and key information about the company and their service will be explained. I invite all parents of current ASC and BSC children to come along to one of these meetings. I am sure you will be impressed with CA, just as the sub-committee was.

Parish Youth Mass
Last Sunday we had a great turnout for our first parish Youth Mass for 2019. A huge thank you to our Youth Minister Theresa Corson for coordinating the Mass and to the many families who came along. As St Jude’s Religious Education Coordinator, I am humbled to see that the vision for the CSYMI (Catholic Schools Youth Ministry International) of inspiring and equipping Catholic schools to become centres of the New Evangelisation is being realised. If we take small steps together through the journey and ensure all stakeholders share the same vision, it is my hope that our students will be confident in their faith and share the Good News with others.
Vinnies Winter Appeal
Last year, Vinnies Conference members provided over $2 million in emergency assistance including food vouchers and parcels to people in need. We are asking for you to assist people in need in our local community again this winter. By supporting the Vinnies Winter Appeal we are helping to bring safety and security to people struggling to make ends meet. Please bring in your donation to school no later than Friday 14 June.

Thank you to Rebecca and Cordelta Management Technology for their support and generous donation. We have purchased new book shelving units for each classroom, as well as a new reading nook.
Rain Coats and Gumboots
Rainy, cold days do not prevent us from enjoying the outdoors. Splashing in the rain puddles is an experience we encourage if your child has the correct clothing to do so. Please consider bringing in (to remain here at school) a pair of gumboots and raincoat.
As you are aware, we are asking parents and children to vote on a new outdoor learning environment and many of them involve tyres. If you have any spare car or motorcycle tyres lying around your garage, we would love to take them off your hands. Please speak to your child’s teacher or myself, if you are able to help.

Pending the availability of our volunteers, Qkr! orders are usually filled on Wednesday mornings, as well as Friday afternoons when the shop is open.
If you need to exchange any item that you have ordered (e.g. for a different size), just send the item and a note back into school with your child to go in the daily message bag to the front office. The volunteers at the Uniform Shop will then swap the item over for you and provide it to your child to take home. If any of the items you have ordered happen to be out of stock at the time, a slip will be provided to your child advising of this. If required, refunds can be arranged via the front office.
All profits from the Uniform Shop go to the St Jude’s Community Council and help fund school projects, such as the new playground equipment built in 2018.
If you have any questions, please direct them to: firstname.lastname@example.org
Finally, if anyone is able to assist at the Uniform Shop on a Friday afternoon from 3.00-3.30pm, your help would be greatly appreciated.

Check that your children are tracking the story.
You can do this by reading the sentence and then pausing at a word you know they know.
If they are reading with you (tracking) they will insert the word for you.
If you need to get them to point to the word then do so but if they are reading the story fluently they don’t need to point to the word any more.
They are reading fabulously.
