Gospel: Mt 5:17-37 [long form] Mt 5:20-22, 27-28, 33-34, 37 [short form]
Jesus said to his disciples:
"Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets.
I have come not to abolish but to fulfill. Amen, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or the smallest part of a letter will pass from the law, until all things have taken place. Therefore, whoever breaks one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do so will be called least in the kingdom of heaven.
But whoever obeys and teaches these commandments will be called greatest in the kingdom of heaven. I tell you, unless your righteousness surpasses that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven. "You have heard that it was said to your ancestors, You shall not kill; and whoever kills will be liable to judgment.
But I say to you, whoever is angry with brother will be liable to judgment;
and whoever says to brother, 'Raga,' will be answerable to the Sanhedrin;
and whoever says, 'You fool,' will be liable to fiery Gehenna. Therefore, if you bring your gift to the altar, and there recall that your brother has anything against you, leave your gift there at the altar, go first and be reconciled with your brother, and then come and offer your gift. Settle with your opponent quickly while on the way to court. Otherwise your opponent will hand you over to the judge, and the judge will hand you over to the guard, and you will be thrown into prison.
Amen, I say to you, you will not be released until you have paid the last penny.
"You have heard that it was said, You shall not commit adultery. But I say to you,
everyone who looks at a woman with lust has already committed adultery with her in his heart. If your right eye causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one of your members than to have your whole body thrown into Gehenna. And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one of your members than to have your whole body go into Gehenna. "It was also said, Whoever divorces his wife must give her a bill of divorce. But I say to you, whoever divorces his wife unless the marriage is unlawful causes her to commit adultery, and whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery. "Again you have heard that it was said to your ancestors, Do not take a false oath, but make good to the Lord all that you vow. But I say to you, do not swear at all; not by heaven, for it is God's throne; nor by the earth, for it is his footstool; nor by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great King. Do not swear by your head, for you cannot make a single hair white or black. Let your 'Yes' mean 'Yes,' and your 'No' mean 'No.' Anything more is from the evil one."

Parent/Carer communication
As is always the case, parents should address any concerns or issues directly with the classroom teacher. If this relates to a specialist teacher, then please email them directly. Each section of the school also has a relevant Executive member attached. They also can be contacted via email. School staff email addresses are always first name.surname@cg.catholic.edu.au
School executive
Please find below further information in relation to members of the executive and their key responsibilities. I have not included myself, as I oversee all areas. I also have not included Karen Leighton (ELC Director) as she is responsible for staffing, finance, pedagogy etc. Karen is also a member of our school executive.

Hours of Supervision
Teacher’s are on playground duty between 8:30am and 3:20pm. If you need to drop your child earlier, then the safest option is to book them into Before school care. If you need to pick them up after 3:20pm, then the same rule applies. If there is a one off where you may be running slightly late, please contact the Primary office.
Wet weather drop off and pick up
Moving forward, the procedure for morning drop off for parents/carers is the same as if it were not raining. We will have 4 staff on duty from 8:30am. Once students arrive, they are expected to sit quietly in the shelter shed area. If it is still raining when the teachers come on duty, the students will be directed to their classrooms. This did not happen this morning because of PTIs, which only happen 3 times per year.
Moving forward, the procedure for afternoon pick up for parents/carers is generally the same as if it were not raining. You can collect your child from the external door of their classroom, or from the shelter shed. Please make sure that if your child walks home, catches the bus or rides home, that they know what to do if it rains.
If your plans change on any given day. The best thing to do is call the front office and Natalie or Renee will then be able to make sure your child knows the new arrangement. This phone call needs to happen before 2.45pm if possible.
Thank you for taking the time over the first 3 weeks to meet with your child’s teacher. I can appreciate that we are all very busy, however, information shared helps build solid foundations.
Warm regards

Selamat Tahun Baru. (Happy New Year.)
It’s been a very exciting start to 2023 in Indonesian classes as we have moved into the new Indonesian Room. We are looking forward to a fun year ahead with many hands-on activities and opportunites to practise the Indonesian language.
As well as being really fun, learning a new language has so many benefits.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions about the Indonesian Program at our school.

As we get closer to the fete, we will be sending out regular updates and reminders to keep you informed about the event.
Please save the date and plan to join us for a day of fun and entertainment.
Some of the activities planned for the fete include:
- Rides and games,
- Food and drinks,
- Raffles,
- Trash and treasure,
- Performances by the school choir and local sports clubs,
And much more!
A Mufti Day will be held on Friday 3 March to seek donations for fete supplies (more details to come soon) and our stall holders will start looking for volunteers three weeks out from the fete.
We look forward to seeing you all at the fete on 18 March!
The St Jude's Fete Team
The Community Council AGM will be held at 6pm on Wednesday 15 February in the library. We would love to see as many people as possible attend. The meeting is open to all parents and carers, whether you are new to the school or interested in an official position or not, all are welcome. The Community Council is a fantastic way to contribute to the school. General meetings are held once or twice a term. The meetings are an opportunity to hear the latest news from the school and contribute to discussions impacting decisions around the school.
Two executive positions will be vacated at this year’s AGM, the Deputy Chair and the Secretary position. The successful running of the Community Council relies on volunteers to step into positions such as these. I strongly encourage you to come along to the AGM if you are interested or reach out through the email below if you have any questions about the positions.
The AGM will be followed by a general meeting. An online option will also be available for this meeting.
A form was circulated last week calling for canteen and general volunteers. Every little bit helps, so if you have anything from a spare hour to a spare day, please let us know.
Many thanks,
Gemma Cabot

This week, we must say a huge 'THANK YOU' to all the families who have sent in donations of pre-loved items - these are always gratefully received, and allow us to provide a sustainable and affordable option for families and friends who wish to purchase from this pool.
Thank you always to our volunteers who continue to work hard to pack new orders, make exchanges, and fill requests for secondhand items.
For new (and not so new) families to St Jude's - orders for new items can be placed via Qkr! and these will be picked, packed and delivered to your child's class. There is no need to come to the shop if you do not have the time - the online ordering system is by far the easiest method!
For any secondhand items, please email: uniform.stjudes@gmail.com with the items and sizes you need. Do not make payment until we have replied to let you know what we can supply and how much is owed.
FINALLY - GOOD NEWS! The uniform shop will be open again THIS FRIDAY 10/2/23 and FRIDAY 24/2/23 for in-person sales, exchanges and questions from 8.45am - 9.30am. Put this in your diary!
We also have EFTPOS available on site now, for speedy purchasing without needing to access Qkr!
