Hail Mary
Hail Mary,
Full of Grace,
The Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women,
and blessed is the fruit
of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary,
Mother of God,
pray for us sinners now,
and at the hour of our death
Amen.
Lord, I thank you for my mother. Thank you for placing her in my life, and for the blessing she is to me and my family. Thank you for the godly wisdom that she has instilled in me. Words cannot express the gratefulness I have in my heart for her beauty and spiritual influence in my life.
Mother’s Day celebrations
It was with great excitement that all of our students had the opportunity to purchase a special gift for their mums. Thank you to Ben, Pete, Luke and the other dads involved in both the stall, running the tuckshop and assisting with the Mother’s Day breakfast.
We are looking forward to welcoming lots of mums, aunties, grandma’s and other significant women in our lives for breakfast. We will have plenty of pastries, coffee, tea and juice. It is likely to be cold outside, which means we will be hosting this in the school hall from 8:30am on Friday. As we are expecting over 200, we wont be able to have children in the hall, with lot’s of hot drinks, we want to avoid possible accidents. Mums, you will have plenty of time with your children in their classrooms. A little bit of advice is to ask your child what activity they will be doing, I have heard that some classes are doing beauty school, while others may be doing yoga or health hustle, you may need leisure wear.
Our classroom events will conclude around 10 am as the whole school will need to head to the Church for a liturgy. Unfortunately, as a result of limited space, it will only be Year 2 mums invited.
Director’s visit
Mr Ross Fox, Director of Catholic Education will be visiting St Jude’s next Thursday, between 11:00 am and 1:00pm. Mr Fox has been visiting all the schools in the Archdiocese over the past 12 months. He will spend some time within our classrooms, talking to students about their learning. The school executive will also spend some time with Mr Fox. Some of the topics for discussion will be, Molonglo, enrolments, staffing, resources and CE strategic plan. This is a great opportunity to showcase all the wonderful learning which occurs at St Jude’s.
Cross Country Carnival
Over 2 separate days the students from ELC - Year 6 did a great job, demonstrating perseverance and persistence to complete their allocated distance. Thank you to staff and parents involved in ensuring these events ran smoothly.
St Jude’s Enrolment Period
Kinder enrolments are coming in thick and fast. If you know of anyone thinking about enrolling, please advise them to submit their application asap. We currently have spaces in Years 2 – 6 for 2023 and all year levels in 2024. Since the beginning of this term we have welcomed 4 new families, with 7 children. On another note, I had a conversation with Matthew Hutchison about Marist enrolments, and he confirmed, Catholic boys, coming from St Jude’s would not miss out on a place at Marist in Year 7. As our enrolment period continues, we will continue to have opportunities for tours each Tuesday morning in May from 9:30 am until 11:00 am. We had 4 families tour last Tuesday. Our Year 6 leaders were fantastic tour guides.
Mulleygrub Café
You may recall the following message, circulated via Compass:
Dear Parents and Carers,
I am sure you will agree, that we are fortunate in having Katrina as our canteen manager.
We have also been fortunate in having a great group of parents and carers who have assisted.
One thing we have overlooked is a back up plan if Katrina is not able to work.
We are seeking expressions of interest from members of our community who may be able to cover the odd day or two, should we require it.
If you are able to help out, please email stjudes.scc@gmail.com
Unfortunately, we received no responses. As a result, the Canteen will be closed on Wednesday and Thursday (24 & 25 May) of week 5. The usual Canteen menu will be unavailable on Friday; however, a meal deal will be available to order for those families interested.
The meal deal will consist of a Sausage, Juice and Quelch Stick for $6.50. Vegetarian and an additional sausage are also available. Orders need to be placed through Qkr!, cash order forms are available at the front office.
Orders will close strictly by COB on Thursday 18 May. No late orders can be accepted.
Thank you for your ongoing support.

ELC NEWS
This week our St John Vianney’s Year 5 buddies had their first visit to the ELC. This is the first year we have had previous ELC students return as the peer buddy. It is wonderful to see the leadership skills and confidence grow in the Year 5 students and the relationships they form with the ELC students over the year. We look forward to more visits over the term.
SJV Athletics Carnival
The ELC will be participating in the St John Vianney’s Athletics Carnival at Chapman Oval tomorrow, Friday 12 May. Please ensure you have returned the permission notes today. This will be the first SJV carnival that we have managed to attend in a long time. Covid and poor weather conditions have prevented this special connection the past few years.
Mothers Day Breakfast and Open Classroom
On Friday 12 May, we invite mothers, grandmothers and special friends to enjoy some light breakfast (pastries, tea and coffee) in the hall from 8.30-9.10, followed by a visit to the classrooms to spend time with your children. The morning will finish at 10am. The ELC children will not be attending the liturgy as they will be heading off to the SJV carnival.
Open Days and Tours
We had another successful Open morning on Tuesday and received very positive feedback from the families who visited. Families are welcome to drop in for a tour on Tuesday 16 May and 23 May between 9:30 and 11am.
2024 Online Enrolments
Online enrolments are now open for Catholic schools and ELCs via the relevant school websites. A reminder to all ELC families that you need to submit an enrolment form for Kindergarten in 2024. Please note, if you are considering a second year of preschool, please contact your class teacher as soon as possible.
Primary School Enrolment Zones
Enrolments are now open for our primary schools (St Jude’s and St John Vianney’s) for 2024.
- If your residential address is Stirling, Fisher, Waramanga, Chapman or Rivett you are zoned for St John Vianney’s for primary school.
- If your residential address is Holder or Duffy you are zoned for St Jude’s.
- Weston and Molonglo are shared zones and families can choose which school to apply for. Please note this does not guarantee you a place at that school.
Enrolments are based on a priority system.

Friday of Week 4 will be the Walk Safely to School Day. It is an initiative supported by the government to encourage both students and their parents to be more active and healthy in their daily commute to school and work.
St Jude’s will be participating with a whole school walk to school morning on the day. We will have teachers stationed from 8:10am at the locations marked on the map. They will wait and meet students and parents and depart those locations by 8:25am to walk along the marked routes to school.
At school, the groups will be met with some great tunes pumping, a fruit station and a raffle ticket to go in the draw for some prizes at the end of the day.
It’s going to be a great morning and we look forward to seeing as many people as possible getting involved in the action.
ACT Swimming Championships
Congratulations to John C who swam in the ACT Swimming Championships on Tuesday. John swam in the 10-12 years boys 100m Backstroke event. There were 5 heats in this event with John placing 12 overall. This is an amazing effort, and we are super proud of him. A wonderful representative of St Jude's.
Cross Country
A beautiful sunny morning yesterday, allowed our 11 and 12 years students to run their 3km cross country. It was an amazing effort by all students, and they should all be very proud for running this long distance so capably. Notes will be sent home early next week with students who have qualified for the South Weston Cross Country to be held on Tuesday 6 June at Stromlo Park Track. The first 5 place getters in each age group, boys and girls qualify. e.g 5 8 yrs boys, 5 8 y rs girls. Age groups are not combined for cross country.
Athletics Carnival
We are still finalising our Athletics Carnival results. Unfortunately, we have had to run our Discuss and Shot Put events for some age groups again, as the correct weigh of discus and shot put were not used. Once these events have been finalised we will advise when the ribbons will be handed out to students. The South Weston Athletics Carnival will be held at Woden Athletics Park on Thursday 17 August.
