Gospel Reading: John 6: 51-58
I am the living bread which came down from heaven. If any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever; and the bread that I will give, is my flesh, for the life of the world. The Jews therefore strove among themselves, saying: How can this man give us his flesh to eat? Then Jesus said to them: Amen, amen I say unto you: Except you eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, you shall not have life in you. He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath everlasting life: and I will raise him up in the last day. For my flesh is meat indeed: and my blood is drink indeed. He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, abideth in me, and I in him. As the living Father hath sent me, and I live by the Father; so he that eateth me, the same also shall live by me. This is the bread that came down from heaven. Not as your fathers did eat manna, and are dead. He that eateth this bread, shall live for ever.
St Jude’s Enrolment Period
Our enrolments are officially closed. However, we will continue to take enrolments as they come in for both 2023 and 2024. It has been wonderful to meet with over 45 of our new Kindergarten students and their families. I will complete the remaining interviews in week 9 and am aiming to send out letters of offer in the last week of the term. One of the questions I ask is, Why St Jude’s? Responses are consistently:
- Wonderful community
- Safe and happy environment
- Fantastic staff
- High academic standards
- Fantastic tours by our Year 6 leaders
Each of us play a vital role in making St Jude’s the wonderful place it is. Keep spreading the word as it is word of mouth which is the greatest ambassador.
School Reports
As previously mentioned, school reports for Semester 1 wont have a student comment. This was a decision made by the Catholic Education Office. They will however, have subject specific statements as well as appropriate gradings for each subject area.
Parent Teacher Interviews
On Tuesday afternoon you should have received the schedule for these meetings. They will be held in Week 9. At these meetings, teachers will outline your child’s report, highlighting areas of growth as well as developing goals for Semester 2 aligned with areas for development. These are very important conversations for both the teacher and the parents, please make them a priority.

Winter has arrived and the Library is offering the chance for all who like to read (parents and children) to come into the Library on a Wednesday morning at 8.30am to do just that – read! We started yesterday and had some regular bookworms in as well as 1 parent and child combo. Lovely to see. Some children came late and were disappointed as they had forgotten but there’s next Wednesday to look forward to!
The Library is also open at lunchtimes for children to come in and read or play chess or another game, as well as to draw, colour in etc.
*Thank you to the Rice family who donated some preloved books to the Library. Some have already gone to the ELC or into our Library collection for all to borrow. Others will find a home within classrooms or elsewhere….
Happy reading! Verna Comley
Hope to see you there!
Happy reading!

Butterfly Room Buzz
The Butterfly Room is a hive of activity with small group and individual intervention to build student’s reading, writing, spelling and numeracy skills. 4 days each week small groups of students from all year levels engage in MiniLit or MacqLit sessions. Maths intervention occurs twice a week – each Monday and Thursday, in small group sessions. Intensive 1:1 sessions are conducted at 8:30 in the morning with individual students.
The MiniLit program is designed for students in Years 1 and 2 and focuses on developing decoding skills through explicit instruction in phonemic awareness, systematic synthetic phonics for reading and spelling, letter formation, and connected text reading.
Maths intervention concentrates on building student understandings with number. The Grasshopper programme aims to build basic maths skills using concrete materials. Students engage in a variety of activities to ‘trust the count’, subitise, count on and understand place value. A major goal of the programme is to improve student confidence relating to Mathematics.
The ’Friendly Frogs’ social skill sessions take place each Monday-Wednesday at lunchtime outside the Butterfly Room. Students participate in play-based activities to communicate, problem solve, share and take-turns.
