Gospel – Matthew 16:13-20
Jesus went into the region of Caesarea Philippi and he asked his disciples, “Who do people say that the Son of Man is?” They replied, “Some say John the Baptist, others Elijah, still others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” Simon Peter said in reply, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” Jesus said to him in reply, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah. For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my heavenly Father. And so I say to you, you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of the netherworld shall not prevail against it.
I will give you the keys to the kingdom of heaven. Whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven; and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.” Then he strictly ordered his disciples to tell no one that he was the Christ.
Assistant Principal Appointment
As you would be aware, earlier this year, Dan Fulton resigned from the position of Assistant Principal. After an extensive recruitment process, it is my pleasure to announce the successful applicant is Mrs Kerrin Henderson. Kerrin has extensive experience in leadership, having held the executive positions of Principal and Assistant Principal at other schools within our Diocese. In 2022 Kerrin joined St Jude's as a classroom teacher and Curriculum Coordinator and this year she has held the position of Acting Assistant Principal at St Jude’s. I am thrilled to have Kerrin continue in the position of Assistant Principal at St Jude's.
Book Week
We have celebrated a wonderful book week this week. Next Wednesday, we will be holding our book parade. READ, GROW, INSPIRE is the theme. We will have our normal morning assembly and students will then process around the car park area in their costumes and class groupings. This will impact on morning drop off as the main carpark will be closed. If possible, park nearby or drop off. Thank you to Mrs Comley for all her work in organising and running the book fair, teaching some awesome literature based lessons and facilitating the character parade.
Father’s Day Celebrations
As you will have seen, On Friday September 1 we will be holding our Father’s Day breakfast. Breakfast will be a sausage sizzle, pastries, tea and coffee and a fruit box. There is an RSVP later in the newsletter. Please include your children in these numbers as we will then be able to include them in the catering. If Dad isn’t able to attend, we would love to have a significant male from your child’s life. Once breakfast is over, the students and teachers have organised some activities in the classrooms. These will finish by 10am. On Monday September 4 the ELC will host a whole school liturgy and ELC dads are invited.

Scholastic Book Club Issue 6
Issue 6 of Scholastic is now open. Orders close Friday 8 September.
Congratulations!
A huge congratulations to our year 6 candidates for the Sacrament of Confirmation. Last night they made their Sacrament during a very personal, prayerful Mass where the Archbishop highlighted the important step that they are choosing to take, in deepening their relationship with God. He also blessed family members and special gifts. We continue to pray for these children, that they use the gifts of wisdom, understanding, knowledge, counsel, fortitude, reverence, and awe, to live faithful lives and bring God into their lives of those around them.
Prayer Liturgy
Today our Prayer and Service peer group lead ELC - 2 in a prayer liturgy. Thank you for all their preparations.

Year 5/6 Touch Football Gala Day
St Jude's will unfortunately not participate in the Year 5/6 Touch Football Gala Day this coming Monday 28 August. ACT Touch were inundated with entries and as such had to say no to some schools. They are however endeavouring to run a second Gala Day later in the year, with first preference given to school who missed out on the first Gala Day. I will post on Compass once I have received a date.
