Gospel – Matthew 16:21-27
Jesus began to show his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer greatly from the elders, the chief priests, and the scribes, and be killed and on the third day be raised. Then Peter took Jesus aside and began to rebuke him, “God forbid, Lord! No such thing shall ever happen to you.” He turned and said to Peter, “Get behind me, Satan! You are an obstacle to me. You are thinking not as God does, but as human beings do.” Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Whoever wishes to come after me must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me. For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. What profit would there be for one to gain the whole world and forfeit his life? Or what can one give in exchange for his life? For the Son of Man will come with his angels in his Father’s glory, and then he will repay all according to his conduct.”
Student Led Fundraiser
What a fantastic effort by our whole community and our Year 6 leaders, led by Chelsea and Maddy. We will be sending on the funds to the relevant charities and have no doubt they will be appreciative of our efforts.
Book Week
A huge thank you to Mrs Comley for the time and effort put into celebrating our “Book Fortnight”. There were hundreds of fantastic costumes at yesterday’s parade. The Book fair, which finishes this afternoon has also seen many families prioritising reading. It is great to be part of a community which places a high value on this lifelong skill.
Father’s Day Celebrations
Tomorrow from 8:15am, we will be holding our Father’s Day breakfast. Breakfast will be a sausage sizzle, pastries, tea and coffee and a fruit box. If Dad can’t attend, we would love to have a significant male from your child’s life. Once breakfast is over, the students and teachers have organised some activities in the classrooms. These will finish by 10am. On Monday September 4, ELC will host a whole school liturgy and ELC Dads are invited. Thank you to all our parent helpers who assisted with both the Father’s Day stall and the Breakfast, we could not hold these events without your support.
Referendum
The date has been confirmed as Saturday October 14. We will be a voting venue. This is a great opportunity to be involved, as we will host a sausage sizzle and cake stall. More information to come.
Electronic Sign
A huge thank you to Camp Australia for the significant contribution they made towards this project. We look forward to sharing key messages and showcasing some of our schools’ wonderful events. Staff will be trained in the management and uploading of the sign tomorrow, it will then be full steam ahead.
Shelter Shed Flooring
The Community Council have approved the quote to have the surface replaced with asphalt. We are aiming to have this completed in the upcoming September holidays. Once this is completed, we will need to wait for the next part of the project, which will be painting and sealing.
Staff emails
You may have noticed a change in the email signatures of our staff to include:
In recognising work-life balance for our teachers, St Jude’s staff may not respond to emails between 5pm and 8:30am during the week and not at all on weekends.
We hope you support our endeavour to promote a healthy work-life balance for our staff.
We have made this change to assist with both staff and community well being. Having worked in a large number of schools, I believe that we are fortunate in having a staff who are passionate, enthusiastic and hardworking. A staff who take every opportunity to support the children with both their learning and their growth/development. As a professional organisation, we strive to ensure that all our communication is respectful and empathetic to the needs of our students and their families. We are fortunate to have a parent/carer community who use email in an ethical and unemotive manner. When we model appropriate behaviour at school and at home, there is great benefit to our students. If your child is encountering challenges in the classroom or on the playground, we would ask that you direct them to the teacher. If you believe that it is important enough to send an email, I would prefer that you call and make an appointment. Aggressive emails, sent late at night don’t often achieve the desired result. As professionals, we expect that our community communicates accordingly. Thank you to the large majority of our community who do this.

Funky Friday - Friday 22 September
On the last day of term 3 we will be holding a Funky Friday. Your child can come to school with a wacky hair-do, funky socks and mufti clothes. To participate in our Funky Friday your child will need to bring in a gold coin donation. We will come around and collect the coins from your child’s classroom on the day. The money that we raise will be donated to the Catholic Mission. They are a group of people that teach kids in poor countries about the Catholic faith and they provide food for the centre of child development. The money will help make a difference in communities, children’s lives and also future church leaders around the world. So dress up your child and get in on the fun! Crazy hair, wacky socks and mufti clothes.
Thank you for supporting the Catholic Missions.

ELC NEWS
Book Week is always a wonderful week at the ELC. We enjoyed 2 fabulous costume parades with children and teachers inspired by their favourite books. For the Lobsters parade, the teachers were crayons from ‘The Day the Crayons Quit’ and on Wednesday they dressed as all the parts of the ‘Very Hungry Caterpillar’ story. We even had a special Hungry Caterpillar inspired Fruit Shop with 1 apple, 2 pears, 3 plums, 4 strawberries, 5 oranges (and everything that the Hungry Caterpillar ate on Saturday) as the teachers acted out the story for the children.
We wish all our dads, granddads and father figures a very happy weekend and we hope that you are able to join in our some of our Father’s Day celebrations.

What a fun morning we had with our Book Week dress up parade! The weather was kind to us and many parents and friends turned up to share the special occasion. Certainly the children enjoyed themselves, many staying in costume for the whole day. Thank you one and all for your support! Winners from all the classes will be announced tomorrow. Photos next week as we are still collecting them.
Today is also the final day for our Book Fair so any last minute purchases (or orders) may happen until 5pm. Hope to see you there!

Community Council Feedback
We have prepared a short survey to gain a greater understanding on several aspects of the Community Council. The responses will allow us to target our work more effectively. It should take no longer than 2 minutes and we would very much value your response. The survey can be found here:
