Gospel – Matthew 20:1-16A
Jesus told his disciples this parable:
“The kingdom of heaven is like a landowner who went out at dawn to hire laborers for his vineyard. After agreeing with them for the usual daily wage, he sent them into his vineyard. Going out about nine o’clock, the landowner saw others standing idle in the marketplace, and he said to them, ‘You too go into my vineyard, and I will give you what is just.’ So they went off. And he went out again around noon, and around three o’clock, and did likewise.
Going out about five o’clock, the landowner found others standing around, and said to them, ‘Why do you stand here idle all day?’ They answered, ‘Because no one has hired us.’ He said to them, ‘You too go into my vineyard.’ When it was evening the owner of the vineyard said to his foreman, ‘Summon the laborers and give them their pay, beginning with the last and ending with the first.’ When those who had started about five o’clock came, each received the usual daily wage. So when the first came, they thought that they would receive more, but each of them also got the usual wage. And on receiving it they grumbled against the landowner, saying, ‘These last ones worked only one hour, and you have made them equal to us, who bore the day’s burden and the heat.’ He said to one of them in reply, ‘My friend, I am not cheating you. Did you not agree with me for the usual daily wage? Take what is yours and go. What if I wish to give this last one the same as you? Or am I not free to do as I wish with my own money? Are you envious because I am generous?’ Thus, the last will be first, and the first will be last.”
Student’s departing St Jude’s at the end of 2023
I have been informed of a couple of families who are either moving interstate or overseas. Many of our year levels have waitlists and student numbers also impacts on budget and staffing. If you know that your children wont be at St Jude’s in 2023, can you please contact Natalie in the front office as soon as possible.
Electronic Sign
You may have noticed that the sign has been turned off. Unfortunately, last week when we had that horrific thunder, lightning and rain during the night, the sign was damaged. Fortunately, we have a warranty that covers all repairs. The electricians are working on it this morning and we are hoping that everything will be back to normal asap.
Sustainable School
Your children may have let you know that earlier this year, we changed our rubbish collection. Within each classroom, we have a food scraps, paper/card, hard recyclables and general waste bins. We are now moving this into our hoppers. You may have seen the area next to the storage shed has been tidied up (Thankyou Phillip – Grandpa of Ariana for helping with this). This will enable us to relocate the hoppers to this area, away from the main playground and we are investigating a variety of options. Our worm farms are also going strong.
Staff Changes
It is generally within the next few months that staff explore other options. I have met with all teaching staff and I am pleased to say that at this stage, there will be no significant movement. As you are aware, earlier this term Mr Dan Fulton resigned from his Assistant Principal position. Dan popped in to share lunch with staff today and he is looking a picture of health. At this stage, he is looking at continuing to travel and spend time with family next year (Lucky Dan).
Upcoming events
Once our sign is up and going again, we will continue to promote events on it. However, if you read other sections of the newsletter, you will find out more about our Walkathon, grandparents and St Jude’s Feast day, the referendum and trivia night as well as numerous other upcoming events. Again our students have shared their voice and this is being represented in our mufti, crazy hair and socks day tomorrow, which is a fund raiser for Catholic Mission. If you want to end the term on a high, come and join us tomorrow afternoon, where Year 3 will be hosting the assembly.
School Photos
The majority of school phots were quite good, however, if you were not happy with your individual, class or sibling photo, please send a copy of the image to our CC email address. It is important that we give the company feedback and specific examples help.

WALKATHON - Friday 20 October Term 4 Week 2
We are gearing up for our annual Walkathon to be held Friday 20 October. Students will start the walk from the school oval at 10.00am. Year 2-6 students will walk approximately 5km and ELC, Kinder and Year 1 students will walk 2km. The students will walk to St John Vianney’s School car park, via the concrete paths and underpasses. ELC, Kinder and Year 1 will walk the same route as Year 2-6 stopping halfway and returning to school.
Classes have been busy this week discussing and deciding on their class theme/costume. Class teachers will be letting you know the chosen theme/costume for your child's class very soon. Please use items you have at home, we do not expect you to go out and buy costumes. Costumes will need to be suitable for walking in. Comfortable joggers and a hat will both be compulsory. NO thongs, singlet shirts or slip on shoes please. Students are asked to come to school dressed in their costume and may wear their costume for the duration of the day or can change into their sports uniform. A drink will be provided along the route for all students.
We are still in need of parent helpers to help prepare lunch for the students to enjoy after the walk as well as standing at the checkpoints along the way to keep the students safe. Please return the slip attached to the parent information letter that was sent home or email me at kerrin.henderson@cg.catholic.edu.au.
The upcoming holidays will be a great opportunity for students to reach out to family and friends for sponsorship when spending some quality time with them. All money raised will go towards the resurfacing of the netball court.

Funky Friday - Friday 22 September
On the last day of term 3 we will be holding a Funky Friday. Your child can come to school with a wacky hair-do, funky socks and mufti clothes. To participate in our Funky Friday your child will need to bring in a gold coin donation. We will come around and collect the coins from your child’s classroom on the day. The money that we raise will be donated to the Catholic Mission. They are a group of people that teach kids in poor countries about the Catholic faith and they provide food for the centre of child development. The money will help make a difference in communities, children’s lives and also future church leaders around the world. So dress up your child and get in on the fun! Crazy hair, wacky socks and mufti clothes.
Thank you for supporting the Catholic Missions.

It’s the end of another fun-filled term making connections to books, in particular the CBCA Shortlisted books. Room designs by Year 6 response to ‘Farmhouse’
Kinders with their paper bag dog puppets – ‘Lionel and Me’ book
Australian landscape foam prints by Upper school students
Year 5 penguins – ‘Frank’s Red Hat’ book
