Lenten Prayer for Transformation
Loving Father,
I invite you into my life today
and make myself available to you.
Help me to become the-best-version-of-myself
by seeking your will and becoming a living example
of your love in the world.
Open my heart to the areas of my life that need to change
in order for me to carry out the mission
and experience the joy you have imagined for my life.
Inspire me to live the Catholic faith
in ways that are dynamic and engaging.
Show me how to best get involved in the life of my parish.
Make our community hungry for best practices
and continuous learning.
Give me courage when I am afraid,
hope when I am discouraged,
and clarity in times of decision.
Teach me to enjoy uncertainty and lead your Church
to become all you imagined it would be
for the people of our times.
Amen.
Dear Parents and Carers
St Jude's 'Spirit' Fete
The annual fete this Saturday, from 10am to 2pm, is sure to be another great success. The three Fete Coordinators: Sylvia Gallagher, Rebecca Hunter and Jo Chidgey, have done a wonderful job. Stallholders have been busily organising product and staff for each stall. It will all come together smoothly on Saturday. I am always amazed when I conduct interviews with parents of prospective Kindergarten students and I ask them what brings them to apply to St Jude’s for their child. One of the main reasons some parents give is the ‘feel’ they get when they attend our fete! Who would have thought a fete could have such far-reaching consequences. Let’s keep our fingers crossed for nice weather. Good luck and thank you to all organisers and workers.
World’s Greatest Shave - Chloe C (5L)
One of our Year 5 students is participating in the World’s Greatest Shave this year. She's going to be getting her hair cut quite short (not shaved). She's booked in to Cooleman Hair this coming weekend. Well done Chloe for this great and thoughtful initiative of yours. If you would like to support Chloe here is the link:
Cyber Safety and Security Presentation
Parents are warmly invited to attend a ThinkUKnow Cyber Safety and Security Presentation being hosted at St Mary MacKillop College. The presentation, aimed at an adult audience, is taking place at our Padua Campus (Wanniassa) on Monday 1 April, 2019 at 6.00pm. St Mary MacKillop College is opening up this opportunity to the broader Catholic community in the Tuggeranong Valley and surrounding areas. Parents from Canberra Catholic primary schools are more than welcome to attend.
Choir at St Jude’s in 2019
St Jude’s has two choirs 1) Junior Choir, Year 1 and Year 2, and 2) Senior Choir, Year 3 to Year 6. Last year we had over 60 students in each choir. Our choirs rehearse on Wednesday afternoons from 2pm till 2.30pm for about 5 weeks each term. Usually one choir at a time is in ‘training’. We have found that these short and sharp choir ‘seasons’ have maintained the children’s interest so we plan to go this way again in 2019.
In term 1, the aim is to have the Junior Choir form first and will perform at the fete this weekend. The Senior Choir will form in week 7 and will be preparing for a performance at either Cooleman Court or Mirrinjani Village. In term 2, we plan to have both choirs perform locally for a community performance but will conclude before we get into dance concert mode. Term 3, the hope is to take both choirs to Floriade and perhaps a Catholic schools performance day. Lastly, in term 4 we plan to take the choirs to Parliament House for Christmas Carols and perhaps another performance spreading the Christmas Spirit, as we did last year with our Junior Choir.
New Two Classroom Building
Plans for our new building are somewhat unclear at present. Analysis of four company’s two classroom transportable buildings has taken place with a recommendation made. Catholic Education is now pursuing the cost of building an on site classroom, from the ground up, equivalent to the transportable. Costs are yet to come in for this option. When in, CE will chose between these two options. I just hope a decision is made soon as the delay in our buildings arrival / completion date is drifting further and further away.

Happy Birthday Alex J
On Tuesday we had our fist incursion for the year for the Stingrays and Turtles, a very engaging reptile man who had a range of reptiles to introduce to the children. The reptile program included safety instructions on what to do if you come across certain reptiles in our preschool and home environments. I’m sure many children have been busy informing their family members of what to do if they see a snake.
The Lobsters have been exploring and developing a strong sense of identity with a focus on similarities and differences of ourselves and our community whilst remaining inclusive.
Before School Care
Have you had the chance to check out the Before School Care display? It is located in the ELC corridor between the two classrooms. The After School Care display will be available soon in the same space so children can celebrate their achievements with each other and other families.
St Jude’s 'Spirit' Fete
Thank you for participating in our uniform free days and for your donations to support the St Jude’s fete. The St Jude’s Fete is on this Saturday 16 March. Thank you to the parents who have signed up already. There are still a few places available towards the end of the day if you are available, please consider signing up to assist in the packing up process.
Fete Mates
Fete Mates are an easy, fun and cost effective way to organise lunch and snacks for the whole family. Orders close on Friday and Fete Mates can be collected at the Information Stall at the fete.
Entertainment Book
Due to its popularity last year, the ELC will be selling the Entertainment Book again this year. At the fete you can order the book or the app and be able to take advantage of early bird offers. Follow the link to order books online https://www.entbook.com.au/94h4738
Visiting the ELC
We love when family and friends are able to spend time in the ELC classrooms. Remember you are required to have a Working With Vulnerable People card (available from Access Canberra) and need to sign in on the visitor register. The visitors register is located at the front desk.
SZApp
Like the primary school, the ELC will be using the SZApp as an additional way of communicating with parents. Information on downloading the app is available on the school website under the ‘For Parents’ tab. Remember to also check the notes pockets outside the classrooms for hard copy notes.
SJV Play Group
St John Vianney’s is hosting a play group for children aged 0 to 5. Play group will be held every Wednesday from 9:30am to 11am, however the educational programs run by a Learning Support Team will only be available on alternate weeks (even weeks for Term 1). More information is available from the ELC or St John Vianney’s School.

Holiday Care
Next week we will begin taking bookings for the ELC holiday program which begins on Monday 16 April. Family Formation for Reconciliation (Penance) and First Holy Communion (Eucharist)
Next Tuesday evening, our sacramental candidates will come together with their parents to participate in an evening devoted to learning more about their sacrament. I thank all parents as this is an essential part of their learning and a time where the parents can find out what the candidates have been learning about in class.
Registrations for Reconciliation (Penance) and First Holy Communion (Eucharist)
Registrations are now open on the school Qkr! App. Please note that the First Holy Communion sacrament is being made only on Saturday 6 April at St Jude’s (5pm) and on Sunday 7 April at St John Vianney’s (9am). There is no school First Holy Communion on the Sunday 5pm Mass, as stated on the app. Please do not choose this option as it is an error that we cannot delete! All registrations need to be completed by the formation evening next Tuesday.

A big congratulations to Ellie C (4LR) who broke the 200m and 100m records respectively over the weekend! She has obviously been working hard to better her times. Well done!
The first Matt Giteau Cup training was held this week. Students learnt a lot of techniques and teamwork skills from our visiting Brumbie -Sammy. The next Matt Giteau Cup training session will be on 20 March. Please come preparing with boots and a mouthguard. We would also like to thank Tania & Mal Weir and Bryce Lloyd for agreeing to coach with these teams. If you are still keen to play for the Year 3/4 Team or Year 5/6 Team could you please speak with Mrs Gibson asap.
Those students who have registered for the Catholic Schools Soccer Carnival should start getting emails regarding training. The competition will be held at Calwell District Playing Fields, Were Street, Calwell, on Sunday 7 April.
The Swimming times for regional have been distributed and a number of our students have qualified for the south western regionals. If you think you may have qualified, could you please check that your name is on the list on the Sports Noticeboard and collect a note from Mrs Thomas.
ACT Athletics trials are coming up. If you are a interested in being considered for the ACT team could you please see Mrs Thomas as registrations need to be by Friday.
Saints Netball Club are looking for players from Year 4 and Year 5. Unfortunately at the moment they are a little short for players in the St Jude’s Year 4 and Year 5 teams.
Students in Year 5 and Year 6 have been asked to provide feedback about their involvement in sport. We would like to ensure ACT representative opportunities are available to those students who play the sport and are suitable candidates for extension teams. Could you please return this note by 28 March 2019.
Just a reminder to let our front office staff know if you wish to use the St Jude’s fields and courts for team training.

PLEASE HELP! One of our students has lost her new Library bag. It is denim with a big G on it and was handmade with love for her by her grandmother. I think it may have accidentally been borrowed from the Library by a younger student, thinking it was one of my spare Library bags.
Can all parents please check at home, especially ELC classes, to see if it can be found.
On that note, most of my spare bags have also been borrowed and not returned. (I have 4 Library bags left from a starting number of 30+). I am always happy to loan them out but need them to come back for others to use.
*Please note that all children in ELC and Kinder to Year 3 need their own Library bag to borrow books.
Mulleyduds will be open:
Friday 15 March, 3.00pm to 3.30pm
You can order your child’s summer and winter uniform via Qkr! or email: uniformstjudesps@gmail.com
Please contact the front office if you are waiting on a uniform order.
Thank you to all the volunteers who are helping in the uniform shop. Your time is very much appreciated.
Susana Lloyd
Thank you to the people who have come in to help in the canteen. Your time is greatly appreciated. Parents who can’t volunteer their time could always assist in other ways…Mulleygrubs Masterchef needs more people to fill the year with special treats.
Consistent Qkr! Problems
Please ensure online lunch orders are for the correct day and that you get a receipt number. Too many children are turning up at lunch upset that their lunch orders are missing. Some parents also haven’t updated their children’s classes on Qkr! and this delays the tallying process in the morning, especially on Fridays when we are very busy. Please don’t hesitate to pop into the canteen if you need a run through on how to order.
$1.00 Lolly limit per day
Volunteers
Mulleygrub’s Café can only function with your help. Now that the school term is up and running, maybe you can spare some time in the canteen? Any amount of time is better than none. Thursdays and Fridays are especially busy so if you can, please come in and have a go. We all have a good laugh and sometimes our discussions can be quite educational! Remember to apply for a Working with Vulnerable People card (WWVP). It’s free for volunteers!
Masterchef
Our Masterchef this week is the 'The Bright Bray Family' and they are making 'Rice Bubble Marshmallow Slice'. The ingredients are: rice bubbles, butter, marshmallows, white chocolate and hundreds and thousands. We will be selling them for 50 cents.
Coffee is now on Qkr!
Lunch Orders
Please check the prices when placing orders or checking your child’s order if they have written it out and added it up themselves, ensuring there are no mistakes with pricing or missing money for a paper bag. It may not sound like much however at the end of every week it amounts to quite a lot.
*Could you please remind your children that if they have a stamp on their lunch bag they need to return to the canteen to collect the missing items*.
Children who forget to put their lunch orders in before 10am or forget their lunch will be offered a vegemite OR cheese sandwich and a piece of fruit. I will then contact the parents and let them know the outstanding amount to be paid.
Could parents please stop supplying bags when ordering online lunches. This is causing a lot of confusion. With the process in the morning all online lunch orders are prepared before the lunch tub returns meaning all labels have been stuck to bags. Please just pay the 10c for a bag if you order online.

Once you have read a fabulous story, make links to the story.
”I love Winnie the Pooh because he reminds me of my Grandpa, as he used to love honey too. I would always draw him pictures of honey pots but I tried to spell the word honey properly. Winnie the Pooh spells it like this - hunny.”
These links help build knowledge about text and story and are the beginnings of interpreting information. And it can be fun!

St Jude's 'Spirit' Fete — Update
Thank you to all the volunteers who have registered to help on fete day. The roster is almost full which is fantastic two days out from the fete, but there is still room for more, in particular volunteers for the Gelato stall and the Raffles Boxes stall.
www.volunteerssignup.org/PPCF3
If you arrive on the day and find yourself with some spare time, to help please look for one of the volunteers in the orange high vis vests and we will happily find a stall for you to assist on.
Thank you very much to all of our generous sponsors. Your contributions make the day possible and we simply couldn't do it without you. A full list of our sponsors can be found on the school website www.stjudesps.act.edu.au
We are still in need of marquees for the stalls. If you have one at home that you can loan to the fete for the day, please consider doing so. It will need to be labelled with your name and dropped off at the school on Friday or Saturday morning before 9am.
Fete Mates and All Day Ride passes are still available to purchase via Qkr! Purchasing these before the fete are a cost effective way of ensuring you get the most out of the awesome rides available on the day.
And finally, don't forget Kiss the Goat voting remains open on Friday morning as well as fete day. $1 buys you one vote.
See you at the Fete Mate!
